BACK PAIN
In the United States, back pain is not only the most common cause of disability, but also the third most common reason patients visit a doctor’s office. While back pain can be a result of injuries and accidents, simple movements like picking up something from the floor can yield painful results. This is because the back is actually a complex structure that not only includes spinal integrity, but also, supports joints, ligaments and muscles which can be sprained, strained, irritated and ruptured. Further, underlying pathologies, arthrosis, poor posture and obesity can exacerbate these issues. Because of the opioid epidemic, many health groups have reconsidered the value of a conservative approach to back pain. In 2017, the Federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality updated their low-back pain treatment guidelines recommending spinal manipulation as the only safe and effective non-drug form of initial professional treatment for acute low-back problems in adults.
NECK PAIN
The human neck consists of seven cervical vertebrae. When functioning appropriately, these vertebrae are designed to support the weight of your head which averages 12 pounds. They also enable us to turn our heads, flex them forward, extend backwards and bring each ear to the paired shoulder. This incredible mobility allows us to meet all of the unique demands of life, but also makes the structure susceptible to injury. The normal biomechanics can be impacted from several factors including injuries and accidents, poor posture and osteoarthritis. These conditions can present with pain that is not only localized in the cervical region, but pain that can travel to other parts of the body like your shoulders, arms, and hands. The Chiropractic approach includes a thorough examination and may include x-rays or other diagnostic testing to ensure we are delivering safe adjustments that treat the cause of neck pain and not just the symptoms that have appeared.
HEADACHES
Headaches can result from a variety of causes including biomechanical dysfunction of the cervical spine (neck), but can also be triggered from environmental stimuli such as noise, light sensitivity, stress, blood sugar changes and insomnia. While headaches can be a warning signal for other physiological complaints, the current literature suggests that the overwhelming majority are not due to an underlying disease – meaning that the headache itself is the primary concern. These headaches can include tension, migraine and cluster headaches which are all associated with muscular tension in the neck. Poor posture from hours spent looking at a computer screen without proper ergonomic considerations can also make these headaches a more frequent experience. We use a variety of adjustment techniques to relieve this tension and restore the proper function to this complex area of your body, thus reducing or eliminating headaches altogether.
POSTURE AND ERGONOMICS
The human body is designed in such a way that we do not have to consciously maintain our posture when standing, sitting, walking or lying down. Certain muscles will work in tandem with others to automatically support us during weight bearing activities and prevent gravity from disrupting our balance. Poor posture disrupts this balance and makes the body more susceptible to injury. Poor posture can also contribute to premature or permanent damage if left unchecked overtime. Stress, obesity, weak postural muscles, abnormally tight muscles, incorrect working posture and ergonomics, unhealthy sitting and standing habits can all contribute to poor body positioning. A healthy posture includes muscular flexibility and strength that is balanced and symmetrical. Normal joint motion in the spine and other regions of the body play a crucial role in maintaining proper posture and preventing premature degeneration in the spine as well as other joints of the body such as hips, knees, and ankles. Have you looked in the mirror lately?
EXTREMITIES
Most people are aware that chiropractors typically manage conditions related to the spine and nervous system that result in ailments like neck and back pain, sciatica and headaches. In fact, we also address other conditions that occur in the extremities like rotator cuff instability, shoulder impingement syndrome, carpal tunnel, TMJ syndrome, plantar fasciitis, ankle sprains, and strains and more. Injury in the extremities can result in altered biomechanical function that adversely affects your ability to perform your basic daily tasks. If these complaints go unresolved, it can lead to permanent damage of the joint and require surgery to replace or repair the damaged area. Don’t wait and let a small issue turn into a major problem that can affect you for many years to come.
WELLNESS AND PEAK PERFORMANCE
Wellness is a word often used in Chiropractic clinics to encompass a wide variety of case types and patient goals. Some patients want to manage their chronic conditions by utilizing a healthcare method that is less invasive and aims to decrease one’s dependency on medication. For others, the goal is about gaining flexibility and mobility to maintain their independence and increase their quality of life. People of all ages choose long-term Chiropractic care to ensure that their body is performing and healing at its optimal level – the goal is about being healthy and staying that way. Whether you are an athlete, top executive or a weekend warrior, performing at your best is essential to your success. Studies have shown that athletes who regularly visit a chiropractor may have increased blood circulation and greater amounts of oxygen into the bloodstream, speeding up recovery time and reducing the risk of injury. At Thryve Wellness Group, the key component to wellness care and peak performance is identifying your true health and lifestyle goals and creating a plan centered around achieving them.
ADHD & AUTISM
Whether a child or adult, the person struggling with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) experiences the inability to focus or concentrate, and becomes easily distracted, overwhelmed or frustrated. They may also exhibit outbursts of anger, difficulty completing tasks, restlessness, and the inability to socially engage or connect with others.
The symptoms of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) usually begin to emerge by the age of 2-3. Some may display an inability to perceive sights and sounds adequately, resistance to change in daily routines, poor motor skills, repetitive behaviors or movements, hyper-focus on one thing, and loud outbursts.
In both disorders, studies have shown that neurofeedback facilitates the ability to stabilize, improve, and establish healthier brainwave patterns in areas of abnormal connectivity and brainwave function.
ANXIETY
Those suffering with anxiety create abnormal responses from the near constant daily bombardment of incoming stimuli. In this state of neurological overload, brainwaves become abnormal as a result from overstimulation. Neurofeedback is a learning modality designed to retrain abnormal brainwave patterns and help you respond to these stressors with a normalized healthy response.
DEPRESSION
More than 17 million adults in the United States suffer with a depressive episode each year. This goes beyond “having the blues” or “feeling down in the dumps.” Classic signs and symptoms that accompany depression are feeling overwhelmed, worn down, fatigued, sad, isolated, foggy-brained, or disconnected. These feelings are amplified by abnormal brainwave patterns that impact every aspect of your life from quality of sleep, eating habits, personal relationships, professional life, and your sense-of-self. When the abnormal brainwave activity is diminished, overall mood and function are improved.
INSOMNIA
Insomnia is more than the inability to sleep. It can disrupt your daily life and cause irritability, exhaustion, tiredness, and difficulty staying focused. It is also believed to be a risk factor for other diseases including obesity, hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Clinical studies have shown neurofeedback to be an effective, drugless, natural approach to insomnia, especially for people who have struggled for years. Improvement not only means that you are able to fall asleep and stay asleep, but improve energy, health and well-being.
MEMORY
If you are beginning to notice signs of brain fog, forgetfulness, declining cognitive function, mixing up your words, asking the same questions repeatedly or taking longer to perform normal tasks, these are all signs and symptoms of memory loss. They also serve as a warning of abnormal brainwave function that is often associated with the inability to optimally process information. Neuroplasticity refers to your brain’s ability to create new neural pathways and offers the opportunity for you to reclaim your health. Removing imbalances and regulating your brainwaves leads to improved cognitive function and ability to remember.
MIGRAINES
Migraines can be triggered by a range of causes from light sensitivity, hormonal imbalance, allergies, dehydration, and neuro-metabolic issues. The result takes a toll on your life by inhibiting your ability to focus, causing mood swings and throbbing pain. Neurofeedback retrains the brain to create new patterns and responses to the incoming triggers. Studies have shown more than a 54% rate of total cessation of pain and symptoms, and 99% reported a decrease in pain and symptoms. When balance and function is restored, the result is fewer symptoms and flare-ups.
PTSD
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often occurs after a stressful or traumatic event, leaving a multitude of symptoms in the wake ranging from anxiety and depression to fear, guilt, and shame. The cumulative emotional toll impacts daily lives, relationships and careers. The specific areas of the brain affected by PTSD can be targeted and retrained to produce healthier patterns. As brainwaves are improved and become balanced, overall function improves resulting in a better mood, increased cognitive function, and improved sleep – laying the foundation to reclaim your life.
PEAK PERFORMANCE
Performing at your peak requires high demands – not only from your physical person, but your mental capital and dexterity. Whether you are a professional athlete, top executive, weekend warrior or a student athlete, performing at your best is essential to your success. The physical, mental and often emotional impact due to the demands of performing at an optimal state often triggers the fight-or-flight response. If prolonged, the sustained stress begins to inhibit your ability to fully achieve your potential. The longer the impact, the greater the imbalance which leads to decreased function and underperformance. Restoring mind-body balance is true total fitness.
